School history was made last night when three music programs came together in concert for the first time. Berea-Midpark’s Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Choir and Symphonic Strings performed the final selection of the evening at last night’s band concert.
The piece was John Williams’, “Hymn to the Fallen” taken from Steven Spielberg’s World War II epic movie, “Saving Private Ryan.” The piece was chosen as a salute to all World War II veterans, especially the late Robbie Robinson, who recently passed away.
In preparation for the performance, the three groups gathered last Saturday for a special rehearsal with Dr. Russ Mikkelson, director of University Bands, professor of music (Conducting), and area head of Conducting and Ensembles at The Ohio State University. He offered his guidance and suggestions on performing “Hymn to the Fallen” and also shared a number anecdotes and practices to improve the students overall musical presentation.
Prior to last night’s performance, Berea City Council Member, Rick Skoczen presented a proclamation from the city of Berea recognizing Robbie Robinson’s service in World War II as well as his contributions to the city of Berea and to Berea City School students.
