Last Monday, the Berea City School Board accepted and approved Dan Barth’s request to retire at the end of the 2021-22 school year. Dan has been in the Berea City School District for 34 years and has spent 33 of those years with the marching band and the band program.
In anticipation of the board’s approval, Dan shared his retirement intentions with the students last week.
“I’ve been thinking about this for some time and I’ve had a lot of discussions with my family who have been very supportive” Dan said. “Of course, Jeff (Fudale) and I had been talking and he’s been great. It wasn’t easy but the time is right for me and my family which means now, after spending Friday nights watching thousands of other kids march, I’ll get to spend Friday nights watching my own kid march.” Dan’s daughter, Victoria will be a senior at Medina High School next year and is a member of the Bee’s marching band.
“There’s still a lot of school year left to go” stated Dan, “So I’m sure I’ll be reliving stories and memories of the years gone by. More importantly, I’ll have the time to say thank you to the many people and students who have helped my career become very fulfilling and enjoyable.”
